Moving a Sofa? All the Tools You're Going to Need

Gravity is so romantic when it's being depicted as an apple falling from a tree - it isn't as romantic when it involves moving a sofa and no moving tools to assist you. Some tools a professional mover may have in his arsenal are: blankets, moving straps, movers shrink wrap, and furniture sliders.

Moving blankets are the backbone of moving tools, and when it comes to securing and protecting your sofa there is no better choice. Blankets will protect your sofa from scratches, rips, or fraying from walls or nails. Since blankets can be rented cheaply, get several.

Moving straps are a necessity since they allow movers to take unwanted stress off the back. I use many types of moving straps ( forearm forklift to shoulder straps). Wrap moving straps around the legs of the sofa, this will make lifting it easier than using your hands to lift.

Shrink wrap can be used to protect the exterior of a sofa. They are used in much the same way as moving blankets but they can be used much faster. So if time is valuable, movers shrink wrap can do the trick. To add the need protection, use plenty of shrink wrap.

You never want to burn excess energy when moving heavy furniture. That's why most professional movers will always be in reach of a set of sliders. Sliders placed under the legs of sofas will allow you to slide a sofa across hardwood floors, carpets, and more surface areas.

Moving a sofa can be done the easy way and it can be done the hard way. Who was it that said "work smart, not hard"? I think this person was moving a sofa when those words were coined.
